Presidents Trophy Hollinwell Sunday 13th April

The Captain's Report

Despite a low turnout for the Presidents Trophy, those who did attend, had a very enjoyable round of golf and a tasty meal with refreshment. (Excellant value).

The weather was slightly overcast to begin with, but as the golf (in some instances, faded) the sun shone on the more righteous, and they were able to take advantage of the warmer temperature. In the end George McCleod was the winner with 30 points, and Gordon Harvey, second with 28 points. The President enjoyed his day and thanked all those who attended.

Match Versus Stanton on the Wolds Golf club.

The match was played on Thursday 1st May 2008, at Stanton.

The weather having been very kind to the players brought out the best in the Society. A 3-2 WIN was played to a very high standard. Having been down in numerous matches, the Braveheart spirit shone through, with a couple of matches, changing in the direction of the Braves.

Result

Ian Gray and George McLeod Won 1 Up. David Gray and David Chapman, Halve. Brian Lyall and Andrew Down, Lost. Chris Gray and Mike McWhinney, Won. Douglas Boyd and Ian McGrady, Halve.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

After an early morning mist at Woodhall Spa we were treated to a beautiful summer day with the course in fantastic condition, rhododendrons still in bloom and the vistas absolutely delightful. Those of us who chose not to keep to the fairways were met by some punishing rough. As usual the catering was excellent and a splendid prize table was on display.

The BBC Trophy was won by Eric Gibson (hot from a win three days earlier at the Notts Captains’ Day at Hollinwell) and his partner, Dennis Lane. One shot behind came your President and his partner, Pat Burke taking second place on count back from Rob McWhinney and James Robinson.

For those members not there I believe our Invitation Day to be rather special and with the society’s financial help very good value. I thoroughly recommend it to you all for next year.
